You have some old chairs and are thinking of refurbishing them. But you don’t know where to start.

Here’s a beginner’s guide with the basic steps for you who want to upcycle your chairs.

1. Find chairs you want to restore. Look for chairs that have a sturdy frame with solid wood so you don’t have to repair them.

2. Clean your chairs well, especially if you don’t know their origin. A furniture cleaning product will make your life easier. Wise Owl Paint’s GreenEZ Furniture Strip & Clean Degreaser is a great cleaner to use before painting and is environmentally friendly.

3. Decide on the new design for your chairs. Consider painting the chairs, replacing the seat fabric, or adding decorative touches.

4. Remove any old fabric or paint from the chair if needed. Use sandpaper to get rid of any rough edges or surfaces.

5. Paint the chair the color of your choice using spray paint, acrylic paint, or chalk paint. Daydream Apothecary Paint’s clay and chalk colors have insane coverage and incredible color. Be sure to let your chair dry before proceeding to the next step.

6. If you use chalk colors don’t forget to seal with the appropriate wax or varnish.

7. Replace the seat fabric with a new one or reinstall the old one. Use a staple gun to secure the fabric to the seat or back.

8. Add decorative touches such as stencils, decals, or fabric trim to the chair if desired.

9. Allow the chairs to dry and harden completely before putting them to use.

10. Enjoy your newly recycled chairs and show them off to your friends and family!
